Cheat Sheet #23 2011

Not a lot of explanation this week, but lots of music. Been gone at the beach and now heading out to Disney - Boss! Most of these tracks are older (2 weeks) but all are still worth a listen. Also seems to be a very subdued overall sound - I guess summer is coming to an end and we are getting ready for the cold days ahead. My wife thinks it is going to be an early fall.

Hooded Fang - Den of Love
Canucks with a nice little sound, has that 60's slow dance guitar to kick it off.
New album Tosta Mista is out now.

St Vincent - Surgeon source Turntable Kitchen
Beautiful slow jam, looking forward the album. big ups for the funky/proggy break down at the end.
New album Strange Mercy out on Sept. 13
Band Website

M83 - Midnight City source Everybody Taste
Its got a tasty beat with lots of squeaks, but you can't really dance to it. Great cool layered sound and has a laser shooting in the middle.
New album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is out on Oct. 18
Band Website

Girls - Vomit source Buzz Bands
More slow jams. Very drawn out and sounds great.
Album Father, Son, and Holy Ghost out on Sept. 13
Band Website

I Break Horses - Winter Beats source Off the Radar
Fantastic dreamy synth pop sound. If you like the M83 then this should also hit the spot.
Album Hearts is out now
Band Website

Neon Indian - Polish Girl source Unnecessary Umlaut
Neon Indian - Fallout source Gorilla Vs Bear
I'm a little disappointed with both of these tracks, we'll see about the album
New album Era Extrana out on Sept. 13

Youtube is the new MTV (and other stuff)

The Antlers w/ Neon Indian - Rolled Together (live for Pitchfork) from Pitchfork
Hearing and seeing this track on Pitchfork is really what made me want to seek out other live performances from artists. I don't get to many concerts so thank god for youtube, pitchfork, and the like. Thanks Pitchfork!

The Vaccines - Blow It Up (Later Live with Jools Holland) from Youtube
I'm a sucker for the hype surrounding this band. Can't wait for the US release of this album so I can stop cheating them out of their money by searching out poor quality downloads.

Beach House - Untitled (New song live at ATP 2011) from youtube
Sounds like they have picked up right where they left off with Teen Dream. I'm sure we still have some time till a new album arrives but glad to see they are in tip top shape.

tUnE-yArDs - You Yes You from Pitchfork
I'm sure I am a pig because I find the mustache distracting during the interview, but once the music starts that all fades. The effects pedal work with the drums and loops is cool and the rhythm of the song is boss.

Fleet Foxes - Sim Sala Bim (live on Jimmy Fallon 5/20/2011) from Audio Perv
If you made it this far you are in for a treat - so soothing to start and so rocking to end. AWESOME!
