Best of the 2nd Quarter 2011 April -> June

Over halfway through 2011 and with the summer here I have had a little more time focus on music. April and May brought lots of great music and lots of new discoveries. That is always a busy music time of year as many bands like to follow up with new albums and tracks after SXSW. June was a little disappointing (or maybe I am just spending too much time stuck on Bon Iver) and July so far has been dry. Enjoy and let me know what your favorites were.

Standout Album from April - June listed in Alphabetical Order. All tracks are for sampling purposes go out and buy the album to support the artists (click on the album name to go to Amazon)!

Youtube is the new MTV (and other stuff)

The Antlers w/ Neon Indian - Rolled Together (live for Pitchfork) from Pitchfork
Hearing and seeing this track on Pitchfork is really what made me want to seek out other live performances from artists. I don't get to many concerts so thank god for youtube, pitchfork, and the like. Thanks Pitchfork!

The Vaccines - Blow It Up (Later Live with Jools Holland) from Youtube
I'm a sucker for the hype surrounding this band. Can't wait for the US release of this album so I can stop cheating them out of their money by searching out poor quality downloads.

Beach House - Untitled (New song live at ATP 2011) from youtube
Sounds like they have picked up right where they left off with Teen Dream. I'm sure we still have some time till a new album arrives but glad to see they are in tip top shape.

tUnE-yArDs - You Yes You from Pitchfork
I'm sure I am a pig because I find the mustache distracting during the interview, but once the music starts that all fades. The effects pedal work with the drums and loops is cool and the rhythm of the song is boss.

Fleet Foxes - Sim Sala Bim (live on Jimmy Fallon 5/20/2011) from Audio Perv
If you made it this far you are in for a treat - so soothing to start and so rocking to end. AWESOME!

Saturday Morning Videos #1 2011

I miss when I was in middle/high school, before I could drive, staying up late watching Friday Night videos. I didn't have the luxury of cable TV and MTV till I was a Junior in high school so I had to rely on that show (along with visit to my best friends house) to get my fix of music cool once a week. I also really enjoyed Saturday morning cartoons when I was little, having recently seen an old episode of Super Friends I realize I'm not missing anything just being nostalgic. Most of those old cartoons sucked compared to what is on offer today. In an effort to bring the two together I offer you Saturday morning videos.

The Vaccines - All In White source Someone To Shout For
Sounding like a great album. NSFW because of some quick boob shots.

Panda Bear - Alsatian Darn source Pitchfork
Trippy like one of those 3D posters

James Blake - Lindisfarne source Pitchfork
Your guess is as good as mine, I just like the music.

Little Scream - Red Hunting Jacket source Gorilla Vs Bear
Cool paper cut outs.

Red Hunting Jacket by Little Scream from Secretly Jag on Vimeo.

Cults - Abducted source Youtube
Following the song title we get a weird version of kidnapping? Creepy

YATCH - Summer Song source Pitchfork
On a lighter note - throwback to the 80's.

Cheat Sheet #1 2011

7 days of sickness and being trapped inside, this is the music I have found in that time. Any tracks that are terrible, I blame on the sick. Here is to hoping that the new year brings great music and more posts from me.

1. Noah and the Whales - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.
Might be a little to bouncy, time will tell.
Band Website

2. Tapes N Tapes - Freak Out
If you didn't get this album for 3.99 on Amazon you missed out - this track will have to do.
Band Website

3. Wye Oak - Civilian
Nice slow build with a dense gritty sound - the ending is Crazy Horsesque. Awesome. New album due March 2011.
Band Website

4. The Vaccines - Blow It Up
The Vaccines- If You Wanna
The BBC and UK music mags are already touting this band as the hot thing in 2011. I'm still on the fence. Like what I hear so far, but my gut tells me they won't have anything beyond one album. "Blow It Up." sounds like My Morning Jacket.

Here is the rest of the BBC list if you are interested.

5.Smith Westerns - All Die Young
Smith Westerns - Weekend
Don't hate them just because everyone else loves them or soon will . A must hear. I know I am already on the band wagon of these cool kids. January 18 release date.
