Cheat Sheet #3 2011

I found multiple tracks this week to post for many of the bands, hope I am not setting the bar too high just to let you down later. Nothing this week that just blew my socks off, but lots of solid tracks that I think will age well.

1. Peter, Bjorn, and John - Breaker, Breaker
Much more rock then I expected from these guys, still don't see how they will be able to follow up on the success of "Young Things." New album Gimme Some come out in early March.

 2. Modern Skirts - Happy 81
Modern Skirts - Bumper Car
Drum machine beats and some sing/rapping. Reminds me of a Why? but not as dark. Still on the fence with these guys - thanks to Tsururadio for the music. Album Gramahawk out now, get it at Amazon.

3. Destroyer - Chinatown
Destroyer - Song For America
Some of you will hate this music. I agree it is not easy to tackle at first, it has this weird 80's smooth jazz sound with bizarre confusing lyrics. That is what draws me to it. Most of the time I like easy to digest music that draws you in, but sometimes I want a challenge. The album Kaput is out now, get it at Amazon. At the Black Cat on April 5.

I think I need an English major to explain this video to me. I think it has something to do with Star Trek 4 (isn't that the whale one).

4. Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers
Lykke Li -Get Some
Get Some (Beck Remix)
This album seems like it is going to be much more bombastic then the last release. So far I think I like the Beck remix best of all - very dub and big beat influenced. Album is out March 1st. Performing at the 9:30 club on May 15.

5. say hi - Devils
When I looked around the web on Tuesday I found out that say hi had a new album out already. I don't have it yet, but will be getting it soon based on the brilliance of there last album Oohs and Aahs. Album Um, Uh Oh is out now on Amazon. At the Black Cat on April 9th.

6. New Alexander, the lead singer from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Track title "Truth." Great song, you can download it for free from Rough Trade Records or just play it below.
